This Diabetes Matters program will focus on healthy recommendations for foods that can be healthy for your heart. Our experience with food can be rooted in community and culture. Food is used as daily nourishment and for special celebrations such as sporting events, religious occasions or national holidays. Navigating the choices can be complicated and confusing. This presentation will explore modifying traditional recipes to make them healthier without losing their distinctive flavors.

Diabetes is metabolic disorder and it is not a disease. In this disorder the carbohydrates in the blood are not converted into the energy fully due to which blood sugar levels becomes high and as a result it does not allow all the nutrients to be absorbed in the body. So for that we have to increase the fibre content in the diet. List of essential nutrients, the person who is suffering from diabetes has to eat are whole grains and the foods in the natural form rather than any processed foods. If possible they can include sprouts in every day diet as they get more protein and fibre, nuts and dry fruits as they are rich in proteins and also provide virgin fats. Nowadays all the oils and fats are ripped of Omega 3 essential fatty acids because of high processing like increasing the shelf life from 2 to 4 month to 2 years and that destroys Omega 3 so taking a supplement of Omega 3 is also very helpful.
People suffering from diabetes also are deficient in b vitamins so they have to take B vitamins supplement by having more green leafy vegetables as they are rich in nutrients and less in calories. They have to choose low glycemic index foods which take more time to digest which means slow digestion and slow increase in blood sugar. Have a balanced diet and cut down all junk food so you have to deal with your deficiencies with supplements.
